“I can safely say that I went through a lot of things most people won’t ever have to face in their lifetime, but in the end, I got through it and it’s now my turn to give back.”
My name is Jeremy Lisacek, I’m a 24 year old certified personal trainer, bodybuilder and fitness model from Montréal.
It is really important for me to create trust and be as real as possible with my clients. With this in mind, I’d like to share my story with you.
There is something about me that few people know.
I have fought an anxiety disorder for a good portion of my life. And I still do, to this day.
I basically went through 4 years of psychotherapy, from age 14-18. At one point, the anxiety and aggression were so bad, I had to take anti-depressants for 3 years straight. I was so deep into my anxiety, that I had almost no inhibitions anymore. I suffered a lot from all of this. But everything I had to overcome to be able to control all these negative feelings made me mature a lot over time. To a certain extent, it gave me an edge: my perception of life is different than most people and now I feel lucky to be in my early 20s and to have accumulated all that knowledge and gone through all these experiences.
However, no one really talks about it because they feel vulnerable when it’s time to share their issues. Most people are afraid to be judged by others and show their vulnerabilities.
I’m sharing this because I didn’t start lifting weights to look good or for other superficial purposes. Bodybuilding wasn’t even on my mind back then…
I simply started to go to the gym because it was my way out of this living hell. It was a place for me to release all that stress, anger and hatred that had built up inside of me. It became a way of life and I knew I had found something that literally changed my life for the best.
Mental illness is something that a lot of us have to live with. However, no one really talks about it because they feel vulnerable when it’s time to share their issues. Most people are afraid to be judged by others and show their vulnerabilities.
There’s just something about working out at an intense level that makes you feel so great overall! In my opinion, pushing yourself to your limits physically and mentally will always be the best therapy because it is so rewarding. That’s why it truly became a passion for me!
It’s important for me to share this with you all, because since I’m a personal trainer, I want to be able to successfully help my clients achieve their fitness goals, but more importantly have a positive impact on their overall well-being. My dream IS NOT to only be a prep coach and make people look good or feel good physically. Instead, I prefer helping people in all aspects of their life to bring out the best version of themselves!
I can safely say that I went through things a lot of people won’t have to face in their lifetime, but in the end, I got through it and it’s my turn to give back now. I’m not just a 250lbs muscular tattooed guy with big arms who competes in the most superficial sport there is (let’s be real). I’m way more than that and I got way more to offer! I have nothing to prove and I’m not better or worse than anyone. We all have our individual strengths and weaknesses and we are all equal in the end. I would feel empty if I was only a personal trainer giving out diets and workout routines and then “Goodbyeee, see you in 2-3 weeks”.
I want to have a bigger impact than that!
By opening up about a part of me that most people would have never known is simply to show that I’m willing to give back and impact some of you in a positive way as your coach.
